Miley Cyrus Becomes Youngest Disney Legend at D23 Expo, Reflects on Her Journey from 'Hannah Montana' to Global Stardom
Miley Cyrus, who first rose to fame as the star of Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, has become the youngest person ever to be named a Disney Legend. The 31-year-old artist received the prestigious honor during a ceremony at the D23 fan expo, where she delivered a heartfelt speech to a crowd of 12,000, reflecting on her beginnings with Disney in 2005.
Cyrus, now a Grammy-winning performer, was visibly emotional as she accepted the award to a standing ovation. “I had gotten a taste of what my life could be, and from that moment on, I did not want anything else,” she shared, recalling her early days on Hannah Montana.
The singer went on to express her enduring pride in the role that launched her career. “I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana,” Cyrus continued. “In so many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.’”
Cyrus was among 14 distinguished individuals honored as Disney Legends this year. The ceremony also recognized other notable figures, including Angela Bassett, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Cameron, Harrison Ford, and Frank Oz, among others. Each of these honorees has made significant contributions to the entertainment industry and the Disney legacy.
Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, who presented the awards, emphasized the importance of the Disney Legends Award as the company's highest honor. “It’s presented as a celebration of talent, a recognition of achievement, and, above all, a sincere expression of our deep gratitude,” Iger stated. “Disney Legends are bound by the special place they have earned in our history for their tremendous contributions in service of entertaining and delighting fans around the globe.”
Harrison Ford, another of the evening's honorees, also grew emotional during his acceptance speech. The Indiana Jones star reflected on the privilege of being a storyteller and expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “I’m very honored to be in the company of the other people who are honored tonight. I’m very delighted and a little bit embarrassed by this, but I’m so very grateful,” Ford remarked.
